Take Part In Our Competitions
Thanet & East Kent Chess League
We are delighted to announce that this year, our chess society has proudly joined the Thanet & East Kent Chess League. This grants us the privilege of participating in five exciting competitions held annually.
We're excited to share that every match attended will contribute to a player's ECF (English Chess Federation) rating, providing an avenue for growth and recognition within the broader chess community.
By aligning ourselves with the Thanet & East Kent Chess League, we are dedicated to offering our members exceptional opportunities for growth, competition, and camaraderie. We look forward to embracing the challenges and successes that come with this new chapter of our chess journey.
BUCA 2023-24
For the past few years, our university has been an active participant in BUCA, the British Universities Chess Association.
BUCA is an engaging day-long tournament that brings universities together for competitive matches. The format of the tournament depends on its nature this year — if it takes place online, it will be a single-day event; however, if it's held in-person, the tournament will extend over two days. Each game played by an individual will also contribute towards their ECF rating.
Last year, our top team earned an impressive 7th place out of 17 participating universities. This achievement is a testament to the talent of our highest rated players.
As we look forward to the upcoming year, the details of the tournament—whether it will be held in person or virtually, as well as its scheduled date—are still awaiting confirmation.
